Santa Barbara tagged as the American Riviera with its warm-summer Mediterranean climate, beautiful coast lines and the Santa Ynez mountain providing a dramatic and picturesque background, one will never run out of things to see in Santa Barbara. This 37-acre estate created by the famous Opera singer, Madame Ganna Walska features a world class horticultural wonderland filled with rare species of flora and fauna in a series of themed gardens. Walska developed Lotusland from the 1940s until her death in 1984 and it showcases a wide array of rare species and exotic specimens that will definitely delight anyone who visits the garden. 

Santa Barbara Botanic Garden

A local favorite, the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden offers a panoramic view of ocean and mountains with almost 1,000 different kinds of plants encompassing about 5 miles of path and trails. The garden is dedicated to preserving the native flora and showcases the beautiful environment of Southern California. 

A.C. Postel Memorial Rose Garden

Located at Old Mission Santa Barbara, the A.C. Postel Memorial Rose Garden is brimming with almost 1,500 different varieties of roses in every hue. This is a popular spot for family picnics, wedding venue or just a leisurely stroll to smell the roses.

Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens

Another local favorite is the Alick Keck Memorial Gardens, a quiet and colorful garden all year round. Occupying a city block, the garden is conveniently divided into separate little sections by trees and plants with walking paths leading from areas of meadow to lawns to a beautiful butterfly garden and the koi pond. Named after the heiress, Alick Keck, who donated the property to Santa Barbara about 40 years ago, this has remained a great oasis that offers a quick respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Chase Palm Park

For a day of fun and activity, Chase Palm Park offers a beautiful view of the ocean with a bike and rollerblading paths to enjoy the scenery. It has a wide expanse of green grass that is also perfect for family picnics, a game of frisbee or just lounging under the sun. Picnic tables are also available making it a perfect spot for a fun lunch out with the family. 

Franceschi Park

Italian botanist Francesco Franceschi is responsible for introducing plants from around the world and growing them and letting them acclimatized to Californian weather thus giving Santa Barbara its distinctive Mediterranean look. The fifteen-acre park is a tribute to his work with its wonderful array of trees, shrubs and vines and a spectacular view of the city and the sea.
