Memorial Day is celebrated every last Monday in the month of May and it commemorates the sacrifices and death of our armed forces who died fighting for our country. To most, Memorial Day signifies the start of the Summer Season and people enjoy the long weekend with festivities and events all over the country. Here are Five Fun Things to Do with your family and friends in Santa Barbara this Memorial Day weekend.

5. I Madonnari Street Painting Festival

When:        May 27, 2017

Time:         10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Where:      2201 Laguna St., Santa Barbara, CA 93105

Madonnari, or street painters, transform the Mission plaza using pastels on pavement to create 150 vibrant and colorful, large scale images. Santa Barbara is the first to bring this romantic festival to the western hemisphere from its sister festival in Grazie di Curtatone, Italy. The festival benefits the Children's Creative Project, a nonprofit arts education program of the Santa Barbara County Education Office. The Project serves 50,000 children in more than 100 schools with visual and performing arts workshops and performances throughout Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. 

Admission is free.

4. Amazing Scavenger Hunt Adventure in Santa Barbara

Turn Santa Barbara into a giant game board this summer with this fun Scavenger Hunt adventure. Combine the excitement of the Amazing Race with an exploration of the waterfront and city. Guided from any smart phone, teams make their way among well-known and overlooked gems of the city, solving clues and completing challenges while learning local history and having fun. The Event Route starts near the waterfront and makes its way on a well-designed course from the wharf and through the streets of Santa Barbara to discover the history and culture of this great seaside city. Available 365 days a year, sunrise to sunset. Teams can race for the best score or enjoy at a leisurely pace, the choice is yours. You set the start time and determine the pace.

3. Taste of Santa Barbara Food Walking Tour

Santa Barbara Tasting Tours offer intimate food walking tours in downtown Santa Barbara and gives guests an up close and personal look into the local food scene and the history of the area.

As we walk the streets of Santa Barbara, this 3 1/2 hour food tour stops for tastings at six different shops and restaurants, where we taste and experience the best dishes that make Santa Barbara the great dining destination that it is. French pastries, Northern Italian dishes, gourmet cheese, local wine, handcrafted chocolates, and East Coast deli fare are among the tasting options. Throughout the day, guests will also become acquainted with historical places like the Arlington Theater, the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, and the Presidio.

1. Santa Barbara Arts and Crafts Show

The Santa Barbara Arts and Crafts Show runs year-round every Sunday and on holiday Saturdays showcasing hand-crafted items from local residents. Started in 1965, the Show has approximately 200 members selling items ranging from paintings, photography, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, clothing and more.
